At Breakthrough Therapy, we tailor treatment to your unique needs, providing compassionate and effective care to help you move forward with confidence.
OCD Obsessive-compulsive disorder is Breakthrough's top specialty. We run groups and have other resources available (click OCD Resource tab). We utilize ERP and ACT in our practice to help individuals challenge and overcome intrusive thoughts and anxiety caused by obsessions and compulsions. We have a deep understanding of the OCD cycle, so you can be guaranteed you won't get the overheard response of "just don't worry about it!"
Trauma/PTSD Trauma is complicated due to its long lasting and complicated affects; we often use a two part approach in treating it. It is necessary to treat the whole person to heal all aspects of trauma, such as the cognitive, emotional and physiological effects. At Breakthrough you will develop cognitive skills and create new thought patterns as well as doing a deeper level of healing with regards to the emotional pains and physiological responses in the body. Trauma is not caused or experienced in the same way by all people. Everyone is unique and often uniquely impacted by experiences. There are also different types of trauma. Acute/recent traumatic experiences (Acute Stress Disorder or PTSD) often show up as intense mental, emotional and physical reactions and are very intrusive day to day.
Anxiety & Panic At Breakthrough we have extensive experience with anxiety and panic disorders. We use a number of different approaches, individualized to the client. Many clients only learn coping skills, which are paramount to learn and utilize in overcoming anxiety and panic, but often much more than that is required to have a significant change with these symptoms. Many people go to medications for this treatment, and although not opposed to them, we believe it should not be the only form of treatment. We have found success in helping many people to significantly reduce anxiety and panic attacks to the point of minimizing or even eliminating symptoms. This is hard work and takes time, patience, and utilizing skills. But with the right approach these challenges can dissipate drastically. Breakthrough Therapy regularly speaks with medical providers to coordinate and support those taking psychiatric medication, as a large portion of those in therapy do take medication as directed. It is also clearly research supported that in many cases, the combination of medicine and therapy help achieve the best results. However, we also work with those who try their best to address their mental health needs through therapy alone.
Children & Teens For teens, we take an experiential approach to therapy, moving beyond traditional talk therapy to engage them in ways that feel natural and meaningful. This might involve interactive exercises, creative expression, real-world exposures, or movement-based techniques that help them connect with their emotions in a tangible way. Whether through exposure therapy for anxiety and OCD, mindfulness strategies for emotional regulation, or values-based work to navigate identity and relationships, we help teens gain self-awareness and coping skills they can use in everyday life. Our goal is to create a nonjudgmental space where teens feel heard, empowered, and capable of growth. We understand that young people express themselves differently than adults, so we tailor our approach to meet them where they are—whether through play, creative activities, or real-life experiences.
Couples Counseling We help couples build stronger, more connected relationships using the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). The Gottman Method focuses on practical skills like communication, conflict resolution, and strengthening trust, while EFT helps partners understand their emotional needs and break negative cycles. Through structured exercises and guided conversations, we help couples improve intimacy, navigate challenges, and create lasting, meaningful change in their relationship. Whether couples are struggling with conflict resolution, intimacy issues, or rebuilding after betrayal, our therapy process equips them with tools to foster a secure, fulfilling relationship.
Family Therapy We help families improve communication, strengthen relationships, and navigate life’s challenges together. Using evidence-based approaches, we guide families in resolving conflicts, setting healthy boundaries, and fostering emotional connection. Whether addressing parent-child struggles, sibling dynamics, or major life transitions, our therapy process creates a safe space for each family member to be heard and understood. Through structured conversations and interactive exercises, we help families break unhealthy patterns, build trust, and create a more supportive and connected home environment.

Our therapists use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold-standard treatment for OCD, along with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients break free from intrusive thoughts, compulsive behaviors, and anxiety-driven cycles. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure Therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches, we teach practical tools to manage excessive worry, panic attacks, social anxiety, phobias, and general anxiety. We also use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help clients process traumatic experiences.
